Judge Gives Argosy Seven Days

DES MOINES, IA - (UPDATE)  Polk County District Judge Eliza Ovrom ordered the temporary stay for the casino will remain in effect for seven more days, giving Argosy attorneys time to seek a stay from the Iowa Supreme Court.

If a new stay is not granted by the Supreme Court by July 21, 2014, the casino will close July 22.

Previous Story:

At the end of a hearing in Des Moines this morning, the Argosy got an extension of a judge's order that allows them to remain open.

Judge Eliza Ovrom extended her stay of an Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission order to close the casino until she rules on Argosy's appeal. This morning's hearing saw lawyers for the Argosy, the IRGC, the owners of the new Hard Rock Casino and its non-profit partner Missouri River Historical Development making their arguments on why the Argosy should be forced to close or allowed to remain open.

The judge had previously granted the casino a 10-day stay, which allowed it to stay open past the IRGC's July 1 closing date until Thursday.
Ovrom said she hopes to issue her ruling early next week.
