Melbournes Cultural Scene is Strengthened with the Addition of the Collective Theatre Group

Posted: Updated:

Melbourne has long been a major cultural center for Australia, but the recent creation of the Collective, a theatre company specializing in musical productions and cabarets has helped grow the city’s reputation as a major destination for lovers of theatrical productions. Founded by Geordie Worland and James Cutler, the Collective is a unique organization that espouses top tier theatrical plays and shows as well as a strong business model. In addition to produces outstanding shows, the performers, musicians and producers each receive a portion of each show’s earnings, thus incentivizing them to perform at their best. The Collective encourages performers to be deeply involved in the creative process.

The Collective is currently producing “Parade,” a musical authored by the esteemed playwright Jason Robert Brown. “Parade” will star Michelle Smitheram and Cameron MacDonald, both internationally acclaimed singers and theatrical performers. The show also stars Tod Strike and Cle Morgan who are both internationally recording artists in their own right. The play itself has earned rave reviews, the Tony Award, and six Drama Desk Award for productions on Broadway and around the world.

As the first major production for the Collective theatre group, “Parade” requires considerable financial backing to be successful. In order to pay for sets, costumes, lighting, crew and performer salaries, the Collective has partnered with Indigogo to help raise funds. With a goal of $15,000, the Indiegogo campaign will provide a number of perks to supporters including playbill credits, show tickets, signed programs, and invitations to the after-show party. Financial contributors can be a part of this historically important production and claim that they were present at the launch of one Australia’s most important new theatrical companies.
