YMCA Offers Free Swimming Lessons to Siouxland Children

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE - Siouxland kids got a chance to show off their new swimming skills today.

Nearly 100 kids got a chance to take free swimming lessons this summer at the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA in South Sioux City, thanks to a 3-thousand dollar grant from the YMCA national office. Today was the last day for the lessons and it was time for the kids to show what they learned. If they passed, they were given a certificate to show their skills.

"I think it's been a great opportunity. The Y, you know we're here to strengthen community as a local non-profit. We want every child to have the chance to learn grow and thrive. So, being awarded this grant and being able to collaborate with the boy club has been a perfect opportunity for us, and we're excited and happy to have the opportunity to do that," said Molly Hewiit, YMCA Director of Development.

The Boys Club also gave a recognition award to the teacher thanking him for leading the lessons.
