Community Mourns Teacher Who Captured Memories

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE -  He created memories for generations of students at South Sioux City. And now those students are remembering the life of Jeff Davenport, the teacher and friend many of them called, "Dav."

Jeff Davenport was a substitute teacher, track and cross country coach for years at South Sioux City's high school,  the same school he graduated from in 1975.

Part of his legacy are the thousands of pictures he took of students during activities from sports, to dance competitions, to plays, and so much more. He also photographed many events at the local colleges and for the Bandits football team. Davenport worked years at Harold's photography and used the knowledge he developed to capture the changing times.

A Facebook page called "Remembering Jeff Davenport" already includes more than 700 postings. And as another tribute, scores of students and former students have changed the profile picture on their Facebook page, to photos that Davenport took of them.

His family says Davenport had battled colon cancer recently and Monday he collapsed at his home, possibly because of a blood clot.

The family will be present Thursday during a visitation from 5 until 7pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska.
A funeral service will be held at St. Patrick Friday morning at 11.
