Pilger Family Begins Healing Process

PILGER, NE - A small town was destroyed and its residents left to try and figure out what's next.

"I was freaked out I came to town and state patrol wouldn't let me in to see my family. I ended up having to sneak in," said Pilger resident Bryan Harms.

It's been a little more than a week since the small Nebraska town of Pilger was destroyed by a rare double tornado. Now these folks have a big task of picking up the pieces and rebuilding their town.

Harms lived in that house for over a year and a half.  At the time of the storm he was separated from his wife and daughter.

"Well I was down in Columbus. I called my wife and told her to get over to her grandma's house. I told her to get to her grandmas and the basement because I knew it would be the safest place," said Harms.

When he came back it was complete shock, and the home his wife grew up in was destroyed.

"As soon as we can get the loans we're going to try and rebuild. This was my wife's childhood home. My mother–in–law owned the house. We're going to try to find a place to rebuild," said Harms.

Until then, all the Harms family can do is wait and pick up the scatter pieces of their home and town.
