VALPARAISO, Ind., June 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On Thursday, August 14th, Golden Tech will be hosting its Do Good Golf Tournament at The Valparaiso Country Club. Funds raised at the 3rd annual Do Good Event will go towards purchasing Braille Notetaker technology to help visually-impaired students compete in the classroom and be confident in their futures. Golden Tech is an IT Solutions provider committed to pursuing excellence in making technology work for people with offices in Valparaiso, Michiana, and Southwest Florida.

The tournament format will be a four-person scramble. Lunch will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at noon. Individuals can participate in the event for $100 per golfer and foursomes are $400. The tournament will feature multiple on-course events such as a hole-in-one contest and car donated by Paul Sur Buick/GMC, closest to the pin and longest drive. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available and individuals can also donate directly to the visually-impaired education cause.

Karen Ennis is the Visually-Impaired Program Coordinator at Morgan Township Schools.  She services blind and legally blind students throughout Porter County. Her students are mainstreamed in the general education setting for most of their classes, but since this is not the state school for the blind, they lack the state school technology resources. The state school is two hours away and most of the families do not want to send their children away for weeks at a time.

"They are so gifted and would be AP and honor students if they weren't blind," Ennis said.  "They have so much potential and I don't want them giving up their dreams because they can't access their education like others," she added.

"One of Golden Tech's core Values is Goodwill," said Golden Tech Partner, Scott Dujmovich. "We are proud to support the Porter County visually-impaired program at Morgan Township Schools and help these students compete in the classroom and become college or career ready," he added.

The new Braille Notetaker technology is equipped with mathematics and science formulas the students need for algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, biology and chemistry. "Golden Tech supports Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education initiatives and this technology will allow the students to do all their coursework and compete with their sighted peers," said Dujmovich.
