Public Pools Open After Weather Delay

SIOUX CITY, IA - Splashing water and spraying sunscreen--the summer season is finally here.

But yesterday things didn't entirely go as planned.

"All five pools were supposed to open yesterday, but unfortunately it was only about 60 degrees outside. So, hopefully today it's a little bit better," said Recreation Supervisor Eric Griffith of Sioux City Parks and Recreation.

After some inclement weather that slowed down the fun on Monday, all five Sioux City public pools officially opened today, including Riverside.

With the improved weather, kids filled the pool in Riverside.

Griffith said today was the perfect mix of sun and fun.

"Usually our sweet point for people coming out to the pools is just above 80 degrees, high of 83. Hopefully we a little bit better crowds. We do have our free Friday night swim coming up Leeds pool so we're hoping that we get a big crowd for that," said Griffith.

If today was any indication, that shouldn't be a problem.

Free Friday night swims take place at different locations throughout the summer. Those locations can be found in the 2014 Fun and Action Guide on the Parks and Recreation website.

Free Saturday night swims take place at Cook Pool, weather permitting, all summer long.

Parks and rec are still accepting signups for swim lessons, too, but spots are filling up fast. Those interested are encouraged to sign up now.
