Change of Command at 185th ARW

SIOUX CITY, IA - After seven years, Colonel Brian Miller is retiring from military service Saturday.

Colonel Larry Christensen of the 185th Air Refueling Wing said, "I can't tell you how proud I am to be a part of this organization and to be the wing commander."

The 185th Air Refueling Wing of the Air National Guard is located in Sioux City, and Saturday Colonel Larry Christensen takes over as commander of the wing after a seven year stint by his predecessor Colonel Brian Miller, who is retiring.

Colonel Christensen says he's excited to take over during a period of major changes throughout all branches of the military. He said, " The 185th and the DOD in general are is going through a lot of changes here. Recently with the drawing to an end war in Afghanistan, changes in the budget, which aren't going away and sequestration, what I need to do is concentrate on how to make sure we stay viable and relevant in the world with those constraints."

The Change of Command event takes place at 1:00 pm on Saturday at the main hanger of the wing to celebrate the change of command and the return of 130 men and women that were deployed.

Colonel Christensen has a simple message for soon-to-be former Commander Colonel Miller, "I would like to thank Colonel Brian Miller for his leadership the last seven years. He's handing me over an outstanding unit. Our future looks extremely bright. We're going to be very busy in the future over the next few years and beyond."

Tomorrow's Change of Command Celebration is immediately followed by a Welcome Home Ceremony for 130 members of the wing that have been deployed over the past year.
