Salvation Army Recognized for 2011 Flood Relief Efforts

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Salvation Army was presented with a check for $30,000 Tuesday morning. The Union County Board of Commissioners recognized the organization for its help during the 2011 Missouri River Flooding.

The Salvation Army organized volunteers who filled and cleaned up sandbags. The volunteers logged more than a thousand hours during the crisis, and the Salvation Army says that this weekend's storms are a reminder of where this money should go.

"The weekend kind of reminded us that we never know when these things are going to happen, so we'll put this in a reserve and we will be ready for Raymond's midnight call," said Major Von Vandiver, Commanding Officer at the Salvation Army.

Vandiver also noted that Siouxland has made great progress in recovering from the effects of the flood.
