Owners of Historic Buildings in Sioux City Learn the Importance of Preservation

SIOUX CITY, IA - Sioux City is full of historic buildings and homes, and Tuesday people hoping to do some restoration work got advice on how to use state dollars to pay for some of that work.

The Historic Preservation Commission hosted a seminar Tuesday afternoon at the Sioux City Public Museum. Homeowners learned about the importance of preserving historic buildings, and what tax credits were available to help them do that. Sioux City's historical buildings aren't confined to homes either.

"We have a lot of buildings that look like the Sioux City City Hall and the old mansion up on 2901 Jackson. It's called Richardsonian Romanesque. We have the most of those in the state of Iowa.  And we have the Woodbury County Courthouse and the Floyd Monument. The Floyd Monuments a national landmark," said Jim Jung of the Historic Preservation Commission.

The seminar was for both residential and commercial property owners.
