Storm Spotter Training Class Held at Western Iowa Tech

SIOUX CITY, IA - It was standing room only as Western Iowa Tech hosted weather spotter training tonight.

Training like this is recommended for emergency personnel and first responders, and while the training is designed to cover information like storm structure and development, instructors say that what they cover isn't always up to them.

"Many people around here remember that night of Sloan, Moville, Wayne, Nebraska, many communities being affected.  So really how we prepare is really how Mother Nature unfolds the previous summer," said Todd Heitkamp, Warning Coordination Meteorologist.

The session trains storm spotters for the National Weather Service.
