South Dakota Gov. Signs Texting While Driving Ban

PIERRE, SD -

Keep your eyes on the road. That's new tonight... as South Dakota has officially banned texting while driving.

Under the new law, Texting While Driving will be illegal all across the state, with a $100 fine.

Police won't be able to pull drivers over just for texting, but cities like Sioux Falls with tougher bans will be allowed to keep them.

The reason this deal came together is because of pressure from the public: People wondering why the state wasn't doing anything about the issue.

The new law goes into effect July 1st.
