Barn Fire Leads to Livestock Death

350 feeder pigs were killed by a fire on a farm near Oyens, Iowa early this morning.

According to KLEM radio in Le Mars, the 70-year-old barn caught fire about 2 A.M. The building's temperature alarm alerted the owner that it was getting too hot inside the barn.

Firefighters from Oyens and Le Mars responded, hauling water in to fight the flames but the building eventually collapsed after a couple of hours.

The livestock alone could be worth as much as $18,000.
