Scam Artist Posing as Sheriff's Office to Access Your Credit Card Information

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, IA -

There's yet another phone scammer looking to get your private information.

The Woodbury County Sheriff's Office said someone is posing as an official with the Sheriff's Office and is trying to collect on an outstanding debt.

The caller has asked victims for their credit card information to settle the debt, but officials say it's a trap.

"Any time that somebody calls you and is asking you for credit card information or account information, personal information like that, unless you know that individual you should not be giving  out that information and we want to know if somebody is calling and asking for that type of information," said Major Greg Stallman.

If you think you're a victim of this or any other phone scam, call the Sheriff's Office at 712-279-6010.

If you have a story you want to tell or an  incident you think needs to be investigated, our reporter Beairshelle Edmé wants to hear about it.
