SIOUX CITY, IA -

In a morning raid, the SWAT team shot and killed the suspect from last weekend's shooting on Sioux City's north side.

According to police, at around 3:30 am Tuesday, officers learned the shooting suspect was at the Southview Apartments in the Morningside neighborhood. Police say the man was inside an apartment with two small children and several women.

After confirming the suspect was inside, officers deployed the SWAT Team to the apartments, and at around 9:20 am, everyone left the apartment except the suspect.

Then the SWAT Team moved in.

"One SWAT Team member was forced to shoot the armed suspect to ensure the public's safety and the officers on scene," Lt. Mark Kirkpatrick said in a statement.

After being shot, Kirkpatrick said the man jumped out a second story window and was taken into custody. He later died at the hospital.

Police have not released the suspect's name. The officer who shot him is on administrative leave, which is standard policy following police shootings.

Kirkpatrick says the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations will conduct the police shooting investigation.

On Monday, Sioux City Police Chief Doug Young said officers were looking for a Hispanic man in connection with Saturday's shooting on West 27th Street. In that shooting, Rodney Houston, 32, was found lying in a driveway with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died, while another victim who was shot twice survived.

The West 27th shooting happened at the same house where two other people were shot and killed on November 7th.

The suspect in the November shooting, Juan Nino-Estrada, 26, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
