Hartley, IA Residents Support Fired Police Chief

HARTLEY, IA -

Tonight was the first City Council meeting since Mark Younie was fired January 3rd.

A petition backing Younie with more than 350 signatures was turned. That's more people than the number that voted in the last mayoral election.

Person after person took the podium to tell stories and their experiences with the former chief, both professionally and personally.

"Very touching," said Younie, who was at the meeting.  "It was very nice to hear. I could have listened to it all night long, but it would have taken a little bit longer than what we had tonight. But it was very nice to hear."

We tried speaking with City Council members but all of them declined to comment.

A public hearing over Younie's firing hasn't been set yet.
