Police Warn of Scam Targeting MidAmerican Customers

SIOUX CITY, IA -

Sioux City Police are warning the public of scam that's back in business.

Officials have been tipped that a male suspect is claiming to be a MidAmerican Energy employee and is targeting local business.

The suspect tells owners that their power will be shut off if they don't immediately wire money.

Police say this scam isn't new and has been around since November. They say be on alert.

"If someone's asking you to wire them money or get a green dot credit card, those are huge red flag. MidAmerican is not gonna ask for a wire of money to any location nor is any legitimate business going to ask for that," said Sgt. Chris Groves of the Sioux City Police Dept.

If you believe you've been a victim of the scam, call the Sioux City Police Department at 712-279-6440.
