Siouxland Couple Welcomes 2014 New Year's Baby

SIOUX CITY, IA -

One Sioux City couple was lucky enough to ring in the New Year with a new baby girl.

Nia Harmony Grant was born at 5:19 Wednesday morning at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital.

The seven pound, one ounce baby girl arrived in just a matter of minutes after the couple got to the hospital.

She wasn't due until about two weeks from now, but decided to make her special appearance early.

As of Wednesday afternoon, she's the only baby in the area to be born so far in 2014.

"I never thought I would have a New Year's Baby," said mother Rainee Baxter.  "They said 'We've been waiting for someone to come all night.' They said they just got done calling Mercy and no other baby came. And she was here within 10 minutes."

Nia will be joining a 15-month-old sibling when she goes home.
