South Dakota Bridges Ranked 5th Highest in Deficient Bridges

Posted:

A new report says South Dakota bridges are among the worst in the nation when it comes to safety and the roads aren't much better.

A national transportation research group called TRIP says 25 percent of South Dakota's bridges are structurally deficient or don't meet current design standards.

That's the 5th highest in the nation.

23 percent of the state's roads are in poor or mediocre condition.

The chairman of the state senate transportation committee says he'll push the legislature to look at funding solutions.

South Dakota hasn't raised its motor fuel tax since 1999.
