Job Openings for Holiday Season Looking Good in Sioux City

Posted:

(SIOUX CITY, IA) The holiday season is here and stores across Sioux City are boosting their staff to prepare for rush of shoppers and with online shopping gaining popularity every year how will stores compete? By gearing up their websites too.

Job seekers, rejoice! It's that time of year again to earn a little extra cash or brush up your resume, and in Sioux City retailers are on the hunt for new employees just in time for the holiday rush.

"With the two gaming launches coming up PS4 and XBOX1, having enough people to support the amount of traffic that's going to be coming into the store because of them, they can't be purchased online for probably a long time, we are going to need all the help we can get in store," said Shannon McCauley, Best Buy Home Sales Manager.

"We've seen a lot of guest traffic recently. We've got a lot of new products, we've got all our holiday items out now. We feel like its going to be a really strong 4th quarter and we're going to see a lot of people in the store," said Justin Poots, Store Manager for Target.

"We're looking to up our normal crew by about 30%. So we've been kind of working toward that, we still have a ways to go," said Larry Morrison, Store Manager for JCPenny.

Problem is JCPpenney, Target and Best Buy are having a hard time finding people to fill the Holiday positions. Recently Target increased its hourly wage and boosted its advertising, helping to drive the application process.

Another perk to working a holiday job? The store discount.

"Once you get trained in, go through orientation, you get your team member discount. A lot of people like that a little, save a little cash during the holiday season," said Poots.

"It's really a great way to help you with your Christmas shopping as well," said Morrison.

Best Buy and Target often keep their holiday employees which is good news for someone who's looking for a full time position.

And because online shopping has become a favorite for people who don't like to show up in slippers and pjs to fight the crowds for the perfect gift all three stores are getting their websites ready too, to compete with online retailers like Amazon.

Best Buy and Wal-Mart let you buy something online, and pick it up in store. Other stores allow you to check the store to see if it has it in stock before you purchase.

Want a job? Target, Best Buy and JCPenny are hiring. Just visit their website for more information or head to the store in town to ask for an application.
