Sen. Ted Cruz Visits Northwest Iowa. 2016 Presidential Candidate?

REMSEN, IA -

Iowa is taking a front seat for the 2016 presidential elections, as campaigning is already underway.

This weekend, freshman Senator Ted Cruz (R- Texas) will make his first stop in Northwest Iowa in what could be the start of a presidential campaign.

After raising his national profile during the federal shutdown, Sen. Cruz is on a new mission a possible presidential bid for 2016.

The Texas Republican will join Congressman Steve King in Akron and Le Mars for the start of pheasant hunting season and several campaign stops.

Local Republican organizations say it's never too early to start the race towards 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

"Frankly, with the leadership we have now in the White House, things are only going to get worse and quite frankly we have to look at different solutions if we're going to pull ourselves out of the economic mess that we're in," said Co-Chair of the Plymouth County Iowa Republicans Don Kass.

That's why Kass and other Republicans are excited to welcome Senator Cruz and consider whether he's the one to lead the party and country in a new direction, which means this could be the first of many Iowa visits

As the first stop for many presidential campaigns, Iowa helps candidates test the waters.

Like Senator Cruz, former Senator Rick Santorum and Governor Chris Christie have already made the rounds here, and for Iowans, while they're concerned with the present, many are curious about the future.

"You know, 2016 is a long ways away and a lot is going to happen over the next 2 years but the attention that Iowa and especially Northwest Iowa is getting from potential candidates like Senator Cruz is very exciting," said Kass.

That enthusiasm won't likely die down anytime soon.

More Washington politicians plan to campaign in Iowa to be the next Commander-in-Chief.

The Defenders of Freedom event with Senator Cruz and Congressman King will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Le Mars Convention Center, where a tribute will honor the late Colonel Bud Day.

The pheasant hunting event is now sold out; however, the fundraising event is open to the public and a few seats are available.
