Tyson Grant Moves Freedom Park Closer to Reality

A new park that honors military veterans - The Siouxland Freedom Park - has received a generous donation from Tyson Foods.

This morning Tyson pledged $100,000 for the park currently under construction.

This was a matching grant.

During the past 12 months, volunteers were able to raise a little more than the $12,000 needed to get the match.

The $4 million project includes a 12,000 square foot interpretive center, and a half-scale, black granite Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

"The park is beginning to be the attraction we know some day it will be. This generous donation from the Tyson Cooperate community is going to advance that project a long way," said Siouxland Freedom Park President Mike Newhouse.
"Tyson is very proud to be a part of this park. It's virtually on the doorstep of our Dakota City facility. Many of our team members will use the park. They're our neighbors...we're very proud to be a part of it," said Tyson VP Dan Brooks.

One section of the park,  the John Douangdara Memorial War Dog Park, was dedicated on Memorial Day.

The rest of construction is set to begin next year.
