UPDATE: Wild Night of Severe Weather Damages Siouxland

SIOUXLAND -

UPDATE 11:30 PM FRIDAY Siouxland News Reporter Heather Leigh reports damage in Wayne, Nebraska confirmed to be approximately 10 homes destroyed or damaged, along with major damage to the airport, but there is little to no damage in Downtown Wayne, and no serious injuries or fatalities.

We'll have more on the tornado outbreak this weekend: be sure to tune in to Siouxland Newsweek Sunday night at 10 PM for the latest information on the Wayne tornado and the rest of tonight's damaging storms.

ORIGINAL STORY FOLLOWS:

Several tornadoes touched down tonight across all three Siouxland states, with tornadoes reported in Northeast Nebraska near Wayne, in Southeast South Dakota near Jefferson, and in Northwest Iowa near Sloan, Salix, Bronson, Cherokee, Moville, Hinton.

The damage appears to be heaviest in Wayne, as of 10 P.M. Friday night a press conference has been scheduled to give concrete information about the damage to the town.  There are no reports of serious injury, but of major damage to the town.

There are also reports of structure damage in North Sioux City, SD near McCook Lake in the Deer Run neighborhood, and also at the Wynnestone gated community.

The tornado near Jefferson, SD overturned two semis on I-29.  The Jefferson Fire Department had to rescue one of the drivers from the cab of his truck, and remained on the scene to clean up the wreck late into the evening.

The Union County Sheriff's Office closed the Interstate's Southbound lanes from Exit 6 to North Sioux City to minimize disruption to the cleanup efforts.

In Iowa, scanner traffic from the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office indicates heavy property damage near Pierson, IA and Bronson, IA, with downed trees, power lines, and destroyed homes in those rural areas.

Although sirens sounded in Sioux City, no tornadoes actually hit the City.
