You'll find a little bit of everything in this big backyard garden in Vermillion, South Dakota.
"(I grow) Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash," said Amy Schweinle.
But Amy's not your typical grower, in fact you won't have to look far to find something a little different in this garden: herbs.
And a lot of them, from oregano and parsley to purple basil!
"It makes a beautiful pesto," said Amy, pointing out the purple basil. "But not as strong as regular."
She got her love of gardening from her mom.
"We always had a big garden growing up and my mother was always into herbs," said Amy.
Amy had a lot of smaller gardens herself growing up, but then she and her husband moved from Texas to Vermillion about ten years ago.
And soon, what started with a little growing in the backyard turned into a whole lot more.
Now she owns Amy's Herbs, and is a big part of the Vermillion Farmers Market.!
"Eventually it just turned into President of the Board," said Amy.
And with her herb business, it's part of a passion that grows all year long.
"I can sell fresh herbs," said Amy. "I dry them and sell dried herbs through the winter."
It's a backyard hobby, that bloomed into a hometown farming tradition.
