Blue Zones Project Putting Healthy Twist on Potluck Dinners

SIOUX CITY, IA -

The potluck dinner is as American as apple pie, but now there's going to be a new twist to that type of gathering in Sioux City.

After last week's big kickoff party, the Blue Zones health initiative team is trying to keep the momentum going with what it calls "Potluck Moai" teams.

That's a group of five to nine people who meet regularly to share healthy meals and friendly conversation.

Each group commits to meeting three to five times over the course of a three month period.

"We encourage people to come to our launch, they can bring their existing friends, or if they want to meet new friends, we'll definitely hook them up," said Kim Gordon with the Blue Zones Project.

The Potluck Moai launch happens Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the Central Baptist Church on Indian Hills Drive.

The Blue Zones Project is a state-wide initiative to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.
