Riverside Park Hosts Labor Day Picnic

SIOUX CITY, IA -

Riverside Park was also the location for the annual Northwest Iowa Labor Council's Labor Day celebration.

A new report released today shows minorities have higher unemployment rates.

In the fourth quarter of last year the unemployment rate for whites was 6.3%; it was nearly 10% for Latinos, and 14.0% for African Americans.

But the day was also one for enjoying the fellowship of family and friends... and the great weather.

"I suppose just because all the people have been working, dealing with the heat. It's a day where they can all relax and just take a day off for themselves. They had some free food, they got some raffles for some prizes, the kids got some things to do, slides and bouncy deals and so its kind of a fun deal for the kids and we're just kind out here enjoying it too," said Anthony Mahlberg.

Today's event also included games, a picture booth, music, and a K-9 Police Dog demonstration.
