Mercy Medical Center Adds "Largest" MRI Scanner

SIOUX CITY, IA -

Mercy Medical Center says it will soon be home to the largest magnet MRI machine in Siouxland.

The new 3 Tesla machine is twice as powerful as the current machine being used.

Doctors say the difference between the images they'll be able to get with the new machine is like going from a black and white television to high definition.

It provides more details of the vascular system and extremities of the body.

The Siemens unit will be installed through a hole cut in the roof of the fourth floor.

This will also create an expansion of the Intensive Care Unit on the fifth floor as well.

The new MRI is expected to be operational by December.
