Sioux City Receives Tapestry from Japanese Sister City

SIOUX CITY, IA -

A beautiful gift from Sioux City sister city in Japan, Yamanashi City, has been unveiled at City Hall.

A Jacquard Weave tapestry was presented to Mayor Bob Scott and outgoing City Manager Paul Eckert during a trip to Yamanashi City earlier this summer.

This unique work of art was made in Fujiyoshida City, which is well-known for its textile industry.

The silk is dyed using snow that's melted from Mount Fuji to make bright and vivid colors.

The inspiration for the work is said to come from Japan's oldest love story.

This and other gifts from Yamanashi City are on display on the first floor of City Hall.
