The Heat is On In Sioux City!

Posted:

(SIOUX CITY, IA) Tuesday was the hottest day ever recorded in Sioux City for the month of May coming in at 106 degrees.

It may have been a scorcher but that didn't stop a lot of people from getting out.

"Ahhh.... "

Whether it's water or iced tea...

"It's good," says Kevin Sturges, a construction worker braving the heat.

Hydration can be you're best friend when temperatures are in the triple digits.

"Comparing it to the last couple weeks, the snow we've had and this heat now, it's just unbelievable," says Sturges.

Kevin and his brother Corey are fraternal twins and while they may be downing sports drinks and water...

"I went through 5 or 6 Gatorades myself today, it's just so hot out here," says Kevin.

"2 liters of water today and a couple of Powerades," says Corey.

They are polar opposites when it comes to the weather.

"I think I'd rather be cold than overheating. That's just me though. Some people like to be out here and sweat all day but you know you're still sweating in the 60's if you work hard but it's just cool," says Kevin.

"I've been working ever since I was 8 years old I mean the heat doesn't affect me at all. [It] makes me work harder and keeps me in a clean state of mind but the cold shuts me down," says Corey.

The cold hindered all kinds of spring activities - soccer was not one of them.

"We sat out here just freezing to death in winter coats," says Joan Ratley, who got our for her Grandson Keaton's soccer game.

That's why Joan's happy to be out on the soccer field in shorts and scandals.

"It's shocking but it does feel good. I think we finally deserve some nice weather. It's been a long hard winter," says Ratley.

And with temperatures like this we may be in for another hot summer.

"I think its time for a haircut and shave. Winter's over," says Kevin Sturges.

The last time we went above 106 degrees was on July 12, 1995. The temperatures hit 108 that day.
