Good Question: Is Gavins Point Dam Leaking?

Posted:

Our buddy Joe Reklaitis from Concord, NE asks, "Is there a crack or leak in Gavins Point Dam?" and shot this video in Yankton the other day.

You can see water coming out a corner of Floodgate 9.

We called up the Army Corps of Engineers to find out what's going on.

They told us that yes, that is a leak, but it's nothing to worry about: it's a rubber seal that gets worn down and has to get replaced every few years, so the dam itself hasn't sprung a leak.

The Corps performed a flow test on Tuesday but that's also routine.

So, there's a little water at Gavins Point, but it's nothing to worry about.
