Siouxland News Celebrates "Week of the Young Child"

Posted:

(SIOUX CITY, IA) Head Start is celebrating the "Week of the Young Child" with story time. Siouxland News anchor Erika Thomas had the pleasure of reading to Ms. Turner's Head Start class. She read "Where the Wild Things Are" and "Who is the Beast?" The week is a way to celebrate children and allow them to interact with other people from the community in the classroom.

"It takes someone that they see on TV, and it brings it in as a real experience, we try to incorporate real things as much as possible in head start," Leigh Turner, Head Start Teacher.

Ms. Turner's class also invited Erika to stay for lunch. These 3, 4 and 5-year-olds even learn table manners at an early age by passing the food family-style during meals.
