Autism Documentary Screening Tickets Available

(ROCK RAPIDS, IA) National Autism Awareness Month is just around the corner and The United States of Autism documentary featuring a northwest Iowa family will premiere in our region this April.

In the summer of 2010, Richard Everts and his film crew traveled nearly 11,000 miles in 40 days to share the stories of 21 families impacted by autism. The movie includes the Wessels from Rock Rapids, Iowa. Richard and the Wessels' son Sam will host a Q&A session at the theatre.
At this showing, 40% of the net proceeds will stay in the local community. This is just one of nearly 40 requests for screenings across the country and Richard says it will be one of the largest autism movie openings ever.

"Well this isn't just a film just about autism. This is a film about America. This is a film that you're going to see a whole new part of this country and this amazing way of looking at it through the eyes of people who have autism. Now the CDC just came out with numbers today. 1 in 50 children now in the United States are affected by some form of autism. And those numbers, chances are, if people don't know somebody who has autism right now, they're going to know someone," says Richard Events, The United States of Autism Director.

The screening is set for Sunday, April 14th at 2:00 PM at the Palace Theatre in Luverne, Minnesota. That's about 20 miles north of Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Highway 75.

Erika Thomas will be at the premiere and she'll bring you more from Richard and the Wessels family in April 2013.
