(NORTH SIOUX CITY, SD) - New activity at the old Gateway building in North Sioux City caught a lot of attention Wednesday. 55 National Guard crew members from Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska met there for a training exercise.
Part of the National Guard's mission is to respond to any type of chemical, biological, nuclear or major explosive event. Inside the building they set up a simulation of several biological and chemical scenarios.
By training together they're able share their best practices and take what they learned back to their respective states.
"The interaction between the teams and knowing how each other work and making those friendships and those connections. And when an actual event does happen, we'll be a lot more capable to respond to it effectively," said Iowa National Guard Commander
Russell Scott Bossard.
They spent a total of 10 hours today training in North Sioux City.
