American Cancer Society Seeks Study Volunteers

(SIOUX CITY) - The American Cancer Society kicked off a recruiting effort for a groundbreaking cancer study Tuesday.

The study, known as Cancer Prevention Study 3, aims to enroll at least 300,000 adults nationwide. Organizers hope to find at least 700 of those volunteers in Siouxland.

Siouxland News anchor Larry Wentz took part in today's launch event, encouraging people between 30 and 65 years old to sign up.

Volunteers will fill out a questionnaire, have a small blood draw, and regular long-term follow up interviews for the next 20 years.

The Cancer Society hopes the long-term study leads to new insights about what causes cancer, and how to prevent it.

In Sioux City, study volunteers will enroll in April. The enrollment process takes about a half hour. You can reserve a time slot now at cps3siouxland.org
