(SIOUX CITY, IA) It's taken a number of tries, but a new Walgreen's is finally getting the go-ahead on Sioux city's west side.
The store will be built on the northeast corner of West 19th St. and Hamilton Blvd. Houses currently sit on that site, across the street from where Radio Shack and Panera Bread sit.
Tonight the City Council approved changes the developer made to ease the congestion of traffic "in" and "out" of the new facility.
"This is the second or third time that I've been involved where someone has tried to build a Walgreen's at that corner, and to the credit of this developer, no one spoke against the project today which I think was very encouraging," says Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott. "I think they tried to address the concerns of the neighborhood, and obviously that corner needs a little bit of urban renewal, and a Walgreen's seems to be a positive development on that corner."
The changes now mean there's no left turns allowed onto Hamilton Blvd. Traffic will be prevented going from the Bomgaars side of West 19th across the street into the new Walgreens.
In short, a barrier that currently divides West 19th will remain.
