(IOWA) The 41st Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa is still 6 months away but this summer's route is already set.
RAGBRAI is trading in small towns for some of Iowa's biggest cities this year, starting in Council Bluffs. The ride will start on the morning of July 21st and stay in the southern half of the state, heading northeast toward Harlan and Perry, before turning back south for the rest of the trip. Bikers will then make stops in Des Moines, Knoxville, Oskaloosa and Fairfield before ending in Fort Madison on July 27th, the most southeast corner of the state.
The 2013 ride will be 406.6 miles long and organizers expect more than 10,000 bikers to hit the highways for the trek from the Missouri River to the Mississippi. It'll be the second shortest RAGBRAI on record and one of the flattest, making it the 7th easiest ride since it began in 1973.
