(IOWA GREAT LAKES, IA) - The Iowa Great Lakes are bustling this weekend for the 2013 Okoboji Winter Games. Compared to last year's games, crowds are welcoming the winter weather with open arms.
The Iowa Great Lakes are full of sights like people of every age on the ice for the weekend. Something you couldn't catch a year ago. Most people spent the weekend indoors last year.
But at Parks Marina, they expected nothing but the best for 2013.
"Winter Games is amazing. We'll probably have 2,500-3,000 people come through here tonight and then it will even be bigger tomorrow night," said Peter Redmond with Parks Marina.
Winter Games helps get the local hot spot geared up for warmer days.
"It brings an influx of people. We can show off our new inventory for spring and summer coming up. It also makes our winter shorter," said Redmond.
With the appropriate weather Siouxland's been having this time of year compared to last year, the tent at the Parks Marina will be plenty full. That's because there will be plenty of action out on the ice.
"When it's cold and the lake's frozen, you got to make the most of it and be out on a Gator on a snowmobile and being out with friends and family," said Tyler Abens, Enjoying Winter Games
Even down the road in Milford, The Three Sons shop welcomes the frigid temps.
"It proves that there is life in Okoboji after Labor Day in Okoboji. So we're excited. We want everybody to come up, enjoy the event. Like I said, we're going to be back on the ice. If you're alive and having a good time, you're going to have fun in Okoboji this weekend," said Men's Manager, Matt Richter.
