Students Speak Out After Presidential Inauguration

(SIOUX CITY, IA) People watched President Barack Obama's second inauguration all day long. We caught up with Morningside College students to get their opinions on what they want from President Obama in the next four years.

They said money and getting a job is on the top of their list and they have concerns just like their parents about the economy as well as health care. The bottom line though is they want the President to do what he's already promised.

"For me right now, I think a big idea why I voted for him is a lot has to do with student loans. I think he relates to students very well. He relates to the younger crowd pretty well, too," said sophomore Christian Nohr.

They also want the President to focus on topics like education.

"I'm from a small community. So the smaller schools getting more money coming to them, more opportunities to show their work, show their students, give their students the best opportunities," said Tayler Davis, a special education senior.

The President spoke about gay rights and said, 'Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.' College students we spoke with agree.

"I'm totally for gay rights and gay marriage and whatever they want to do with their love life and whoever they want to be with is totally up to them. Who am I or anybody else to make a right for somebody to say who they can and cannot marry?" said Nohr.

"As all Americans, I think we should be treated equal," said senior, Jeremiah Curry.

Most importantly, students want President Obama to meet them in the middle.

"I know he tries to compromise, but they to compromise better to get things done. For like the last two years, they've been in kind of a stalemate and a dead lock which is not good. So that's what I think he needs to focus on and being true to his word. Get done what he said he was gonna do and that's easier said than done, obviously," said Curry.

When it comes to health care, Davis and Nohr said they just want everyone to have the same opportunities as wealthy Americans do to get great health benefits.
