(HINTON, IA) - 14-year-old Jay Small of Hinton, Iowa won the 14-15 Age Group of the National Punt, Pass, & Kick competition.
Jay made it to the big leagues taking the spotlight Sunday afternoon at the Falcons vs. Seahawks game. He and his family got back from Atlanta the next day.
"It was pretty sweet because all the other people were from really big cities like towns you'd recognize and Hinton, Iowa no one really knows where that is,"said Small.
After combining all three of his throws and kicks, Jay totaled 417.7 feet, winning by 7.5 feet.
"Me and my dad practiced at least twice a week up at school or outside. That probably really helped me a lot," said Small.
Jay went to nationals back in 2009 but ending up taking second place.
"I always thought it was possible, but I got close and I think I could do it again," said Small with a smile.
This time, he has the proof to show he's a winner: a commemorative helmet with the words first place on it.
