(SIOUX CITY, IA) It may not be ideal to drive in but slipping and sliding in the snow on a saucer, sled, or even a snowboard is a different story. Parents and kids were out in full force today, enjoying the powdery hills at Grandview and Sertoma Parks. It's important to have fun and stay safe.
There's no doubt sliding down a giant snow covered hill is exciting.
And, if you're not careful, it can be dangerous too.
"I was going down the hill, and I hit a lump, and I went flying," says Ethan Mcleod-Sachau.
"When I'm going backwards, I feel like I'm going to crash into something, cause you don't know where people are going to walk and stuff, so I feel like I'm going to crash into people," says Kaylee Mcleod-Sachau
And accidents do happen, but the Best thing you can do, is be prepared. That means having a warm jacket, gloves, a helmet, maybe even some goggles, and of course the sled.
Plus, taking pre-caution when on Siouxland slopes is key.
"Being aware of their surroundings. Knowing where they're sledding, who they're sledding with, and where they're sledding at, so that they're not sledding into cars and traffic, and also not sledding into other sledders," says Scheels Assistant Store Leader, Glen Coble.
Or tree's for that matter.
"My friend, he broke his leg, by running into a tree while he was sledding and, like you need to watch out for poles and people, so they don't get hurt and you don't get hurt," says Kaylee.
So, what's the best part about Sledding?
"Watching the kids have fun, that's my favorite part, just watching these guys enjoy themselves, and just having a good time, watch them enjoy their Christmas break," says Jeremy Kunze.
As a friendly reminder, Grandview Park and Sertoma Park are the only designated sledding spots in Sioux City.
