SIOUX CITY, IA -
Christmas is over but the holiday return season is in full swing.
The crowds were streaming into the Sioux City Target store Wednesday morning, all part of a time-honored holiday tradition: taking back the gifts that didn't quite cut it.
Karen Dreessen's one of the many shoppers making the annual trek back to the store, but as far as gifts go, she says her family didn't have many duds this year.
"We actually did pretty good this year, I mean we have a few things here and there, it seems like one at almost every store," said Dreessen. "So just a lot of stops."
For nearly two decades now Dreessen's used a simple system to keep those returns straight, putting her receipts in envelopes. One for each store.
"Being organized is the key thing for me," said Dreessen.
For others, organization doesn't matter much.
Those exchanges are just more chances for a few new toys.
"The one I opened I already had, so I had to exchange it," said Willie Molzen, proudly holding up a new toy.
Another holiday tradition: throwing away all that Christmas trash like wrapping paper and cards.
The Environmental Protection Agency says Americans make an extra one million tons of trash each week between Thanksgiving and New Years.
