Holiday Openings: New Businesses Open In Sioux City

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, IA -

Walk inside the Indigo Palette on Fourth Street in Sioux City and you'll probably notice the artistic decorations.

All of it is local artwork, and all of it is for sale.

"We're going to do everything that supports any type of art in Siouxland," said Kristine Elkjer, co-owner.

The hybrid restaurant/art gallery opened Wednesday, December 5th, and as far as new businesses go, it's not alone.

Just a half mile away, you'll find everything from clothes to accessories at the Funkalicious Boutique on Pearl Street.

The shop opened in late November, and had a grand opening Thursday.

"For the last year I've been going up and down the street and seeing the for rent sign, and I took it," said Owner Lori Stekl.

Even though the products inside come from Las Vegas and L.A., Stekl says the local landscape, the redeveloped Pearl Street and neighboring businesses, that helped her decision to open up.

"The more businesses we get down here, I think it's going to bring more people down here shopping," said Stekl.

And back at the Indigo Palette, the group of three owners say business was good on the second day the shop was open, hopefully a sign of things to come.

"I can only say one friend and family came in, the rest was all brand new customers," said Elkjer. "It makes a big smile on everybody's face."

The folks at the Indigo Palette hope to have everything from live music to acting and even poetry reading starting sometime in the near future.
