(EVANSDALE, IA) Around 12:45 PM Wednesday afternoon, hunters discovered two bodies in a wooded area in eastern Iowa. Investigators broke the news at an impromptu press conference later in the day. The bodies are being taken to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny, Iowa, for identification.
Captain Rick Abben from the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office won't confirm yet if these are the bodies of 9-year-old Elizabeth Collins and 11-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey who disappeared nearly 5 months ago on July 13th, but detectives were clearly discouraged by what they found.
"It's definitely not the outcome that we wanted, obviously, numerous officers from many, many jurisdictions have worked on this case around the clock since the 13th of July," says Capt. Rick Abben, Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office.
There will be another press conferences Thursday afternoon. We'll continue to follow this developing story and bring you updates as they become available.
