(NEBRASKA/SOUTH DAKOTA) - Nebraska's Senate seat went to Deb Fischer over Bob Kerry. Kristi Noem won South Dakota's Senate race for a second term over Matt Varliek.
Fischer thanked her family and spoke to a crowd of supporters after hearing the news.
"These are serious times. We can and we must tackle the serious issues before us. Americans are exceptional people. We have the talent, the resources and the knowledge to deal with these serious issues that are before us. You know we faced tough challenges before and we'll do it again," said Fischer.
Bob Kerry called Fischer to congratulate her and asked his supporters to hope for the best for her to represent Nebraska in the Senate.
"Whatever personal animus you have towards Senator Fischer as a consequence of fighting hard in this campaign, please try to conquer it. The only behavior that you and I control is our own. So please on behalf of our country and our state, join me in wishing her well," said Kerry.
