SIOUX CITY, IA -
Volunteers from both sides of the aisle have been knocking on doors and campaigning for candidates for months.
Those same people were using the last night before election day to make sure folks head to the polls November 6th.
You might have seen Jerry Mennenga walking the streets of the Sioux City, he has been knocking on doors since July.
"This is the first time I've actually stepped up and it's fun," said Mennenga, an Obama For America volunteer. "You get to meet a cross variety of people and it's actually fun to get to talk to your neighbors here in town."
Mennenga's using the day before election day to remind people to vote, but the night before November 6th, Jerry says it's hard to find folks who haven't hit the polls.
"We're knocking on fewer doors because a lot of people have already voted," said Mennenga.
Nearly half-a-million people in Iowa have cast ballots already.
The state has received 205,697 Republican absentee ballots and 270,796 Democrat ballots as of November 3rd.
But whether they've voted early or not, Mennenga says he just wants to do his part to help folks realize how important election day is.
"They all realize it's an important race and I'm just trying to step up and help out," said Mennenga. "And make certain that voices are heard.
