SERGEANT BLUFF, IA -
Nearly $2 billion and more than a thousand jobs, that's what the CF Industries expansion means for Siouxland, but how will the business boom affect small towns like Sergeant Bluff?
Sergeant Bluff is only about eight miles away from the CF Industries fertilizer plant at Port Neal, and the City Administrator says the expansion will be nothing but good for the town.
"We're born ready around here," said Sergeant Bluff City Administrator Brian Redshaw.
CF Industries announced what could be the largest capital investment in Iowa history Thursday.
The Port Neal fertilizer plant expansion should pump $127 million into the economy and $50 million into Woodbury County.
Even though none of the money goes directly to Sergeant Bluff, the town still hopes to reap the rewards.
"Spin-offs associated with people coming in to Sergeant Bluff, spending money, buying gas, groceries and buying homes," said Redshaw. "It's going to put us on the map, this is a story that's going to be known across this country."
Redshaw says the town is ready for folks to move in, after all, the expansion should create at least 100 permanent jobs.
While there are no specific incentives to draw people to town right now, Redshaw says the small town atmosphere should be enough.
"They're going to take us because we're easy to get to, we're right on I-29, and all the opportunities of Sioux City are available to them in just a few miles," said Redshaw.
It's the story of one small town, hoping to see big benefits from a few billion dollars.
