WOODBURY COUNTY, IA -
School's back in session for many, and for many others, it will be soon.
Watch out! Because you're going to see kids walking to and from school and a lot of young drivers.
All of that traffic, plus a new school bus law in Iowa, means drivers have a lot to watch out for.
If you're driving through a school zone in Woodbury County this school year and you're not careful, Woodbury County Sheriff's Deputy Joe Bukovich could give you a ticket.
"(At the) Beginning of the school year we try to make ourselves seen," said Deputy Bukovich.
Since you'll be seeing those school buses again for nearly a year now, remember Iowa's new law.
It's referred to as "Kadyn's Law."
If you drive past a bus with its stop arm out you could immediately have your license suspended.
"When they (drivers) are going to pass a school bus, make sure it's safe and all the kids are gone and all the lights and stops signs are brought back into the school bus," said Deputy Bukovich.
If you couple that with a lot kids and inexperienced drivers, you've got a lot to look out for.
Because when school's in session driving isn't just about getting where you're going, it's about keeping those kids safe.
"They may not be watching out for drivers as much as they should be," said Deputy Bukovich. "And you need to remember they're children and we need to be watching out for them."
Because if you don't watch out, the ticket you could get, might be the least of your worries.
