Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts... Do I have Your Attention?

CORRECTIONVILLE, IA -

Do you ever wonder how major country music stars like Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts get Album or Entertainer of the Year awards? Well, it all comes down to a vote.

We sat down with a voting member of the Country Music Association right here in Siouxland who helps decide the fate of these superstars.

Leonard Berg, of Correctionville Iowa, is a country music artist.  He's been a singer-songwriter since the late 1960s.

"I have a total of 11 albums right now, that's out there in the stores and stuff," he said.

And even though his songs have never made it on the billboard charts, making music is his passion and he shares it with Julie Leekley, who sings harmony on his records.

"I do a lot of singing for church and actually that's probably the thing I do best, is hymns," she said.

Three years ago, Leonard became a voting member of the Country Music Association.

"If you've got over 2 albums that are out there live, that you're selling, then you can become a CMA member," he said.

And as long as those albums can be verified, and 3 different companies vouch for your status as a recording artist, you're in.

Then promotional videos like Taylor Swift's start rolling in, trying to win over your heart with every beat.

There are three voting periods, the first narrows down each category..

Then Leonard picks his top 5 favorites in each group, and the final vote combines with thousands of other CMA members to honor the best county music of the year.

Leonard gave us a sneak peek at his second round ballot today.

We'll only reveal how he voted in one category: He picked Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, for entertainer of the year.

The third voting cycle is between October 4th and October 22nd, and the C-M-A's will air live on November 1st.
