Nebraska Car Linked To Indiana Murders

Posted:
STANTON COUNTY, NE -

An accused serial killer, multiple murders, and a nationwide search for evidence ends in Siouxland.

It's a case that stretches back nearly a decade, all the way to Stanton County, Nebraska, where the suspect's vehicle just turned up.

In April police found a body buried in the back yard of a New Albany, Indiana home.

The owner: 54-year-old suspected serial killer William Gibson.

Gibson's charged with murdering three women, including a stabbing death back in 2002.

Authorities launched a national search for the vehicle Gibson allegedly used to dispose of that body.

The search ended 800 miles away in Stanton County, Nebraska.

"It does happen, it's not something that happens often, but this vehicle could've ended up anywhere," said Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger. "It just by chance ended up here."

The vehicle was stolen from a Louisville, Kentucky dealership and sold several times before it ended up in Nebraska.

Investigators from Indiana came to Stanton County Tuesday, that's when the vehicle was taken in and searched for evidence.

All in hopes of finding a lead, one decade later.

"A lot of times it's degraded to the point where it may not be as useful, but there's always that chance that evidence can be found," said Sheriff Unger.

According to the sheriff, the owners of the vehicle had no idea it was connected to the Indiana murders.

Those investigators from Indiana are now finished with it and the vehicle has been returned to the owners.
