Gunfire Sends Bicyclists Diving For Cover In Plymouth County

Posted:
PLYMOUTH COUNTY, IA -

Two bicyclists dove for cover in Plymouth County August 5th, when someone opened fire on them from a passing S-U-V.

Tony Pierce and John Pecaut, both of rural Sioux City, were riding their bikes on Highway 12 Sunday morning.

At about 7:30 AM a Ford Explorer drove up to them, someone stuck a gun out the window and fired four times.

Pierce and Pecaut say three of those shots were fired right at them.

The two weren't hurt, but they both jumped in a ditch and called 911.

"It's unusual, I believe it's a random act," said Craig Bartolozzi, Chief Deputy for the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department. "I don't think the bicyclists were targeted by these subjects or anything like that, I think unfortunately they were in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Police arrested 22-year-old Terry Lee Oliver Jr., he's charged with attempted murder and OWI.

Police are holding 20-year-old Cesar Teodoro Gonzalez as a material witness.

The case is still under investigation.
